Mazda was founded by Jujiro Matsuda in 1920 as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd. Mazda is well known for their unique engine designs. They are the only Auto Manufacturer that offers a Wankel Rotary Motor, which they started using in 1967 in their Cosmo Sport. Mazda was also the first to offer a Miller Cycle engine, which is similar to the Adkinson Engines used in many Hybrids.

The Mazda MPV Minivan was available in the US from 1989 until 2006. The Mazda3 entered the market in 2004 and is available in a 4 or 5 door configuration. The available trim levels are the Mazda3 i, Mazda3 s or MazdaSPEED3. The Mazda 6 was introduced in late 2002 as a 2003 model and replaced the Mazda 626. The styles available have been a Sedan (2003 - present), Hatchback / Liftback (2004 - 2008), & a Sport Wagon (2004 - 2007). The trim levels are i Sport, i Touring, i Grand Touring, s Touring, s Grand Touring, & Mazdaspeed6. It shares a platform with the Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ & Mercury Milan. The Mazda CX-7 was introduced in 2006 as a 2007 model and a replacement for the Sport Wagon. There have been a few different engine choices available, including a DISI Turbochagred 4cyl, which comes from the MazdaSPEED3 & MazdaSPEED6.

The Mazda CX-9 was also introduced in 2006 as a 2007 model, however wasn't available for purchase until February 2007. It is larger than the CX-7 and features a standard V6 engine as well as 3 row seating. The Mazda Tribute shares a platform with the Ford Escape & the now defunct Mercury Mariner and is available in either a FWD or 4WD. Engine choices have been a 4cyl (2.3L & 2.5L) or a V6 (3.0). The Miata went on sale in 1989 as a 1990 model. They are built as either a 2-door roadster or 2-door hardtop. In 2006, the named was changed to Miata MX-5. There have been several engine choices available through the years, however they are all 4cyl. The Mazda RX-8 went on sale in 2004, replacing the RX-7. It features a unique Rotary Engine and is considered a 4-door quad coupe. The Mazda2 was introduced to North America in 2010, however the vehicle has been in production since 1996. It shares a platform with the Ford Fiesta.
